ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY

Once bitten twice shy is an idiom that means that, if you have been offended or disappointed by someone in the past, you are likely not to ever trust that person or even want to have anything to do with the person in future. It could even be a mistake made in the past, and it is only natural not to want to have a repeat of a mistake previously made.

One is said to be once bitten twice shy, when trying to be careful to avoid a repeat occurrence of a previous mistake.  This applies to our everyday live as individuals, in our businesses and even in our relationships as well.

In our everyday lives, accidents occur by mistake and so the next time something similar wants to occur, we become more careful to avoid it, why?  It’s because the last time it caused an accident.  So we tend to be more cautious.  In our business, we avoid contract deals with people that couldn't deliver or disappointed in the past.  In our relationship with guys especially, when we have been heartbroken by a guy in the past and a new guy comes around, portraying the same traits as the other guy, we become shy to have anything to do with that person because, for the same obvious reason the last time we did, it was not favorable.

The illustrations above shows that it is natural to be once bitten twice shy, being that nobody wants to be ill treated once and deliberately let it happen again while it could  be avoided. Just like the lady in the picture who probably sat on a shark in the past and was hurt, when she was about to sit on the shark the next time, she recalled how she was hurt the last time and decided otherwise.

WHAT IS THE COLOUR OF THE WIND?

The wind can neither be seen nor touch, can it only be felt. The effects of the wind can be seen but, not the wind itself. In order words does the wind have color?  I think it does but not a specific color, the wind have so many colors that enable us to indirectly see it. This color of the wind is seen through the diverse color of the things it affects.

The wind is red on a valentine’s day,
The wind is green when it blows across the forest,
The wind is blue when it blows across the sea,
The wind is rainbow on a beautiful sunny day.

The wind is blonde when it blows across a blonde hair
The wind is white on a wedding day
That is the wind for me, i see the wind in different ways, and the wind is a beautiful thing depending on the way you see it.  The wind does not have any color but has all colors at the same time if you attribute it to the things it affects, these things have different colors and i see the wind through them.

IF I WERE THE BOSS

To be the boss entails a lot of responsibilities, but if I were the boss, I will set aside certain rules and regulations that will guide the activities of everyone in the organization. Every organization need rules to function effectively, I will ensure that these set rules and regulations will be applicable to each and everyone in the organization. Nobody should be above the rules and if somebody goes against the rules, he or she will be penalized accordingly. These penalties will also be the same for everybody in the organization with no regards to who you are or what position you occupy. There will be no preferential treatment because, that’s where the organization begins to fall.

Therefore if two people commit the same offence in the organization, the penalty should also be alike if not, the unflavored party will feel that you hate him and thus reduce the efficiency of performance in the organization. It will also be assumed that the boss is partial in decision making, which is not supposed to be the case. This means that as the boss, you should be objective in your decision making process, if you are hired to do a job in the organization, that you must do. I will ensure that everything is put in place for the upliftment and growth of the company, the reason is that people go into business to make profit and that I will ensure no matter the cost.

Moreover, since being a boss entails more responsibilities, like curtailing the excesses of employees, as the boss, sincerely I will not be mild or excessively jovial with my employees as that often lead to lack of respect that grows to neglect and downfall of the organization. If I were the boss, I will do all I can to ensure that things are done in the right way, even if it means that I have to be bossy to achieve that.

MEDIA:GOOD OR BAD FOR THE YOUTH

The media is something that the youth cannot escape, is impossible for the youth to live without the media these days especially the Internet. Often time children and youth are exposed to images that could be interpreted in a good or bad way depending on the understanding of the child on the images. The media is everywhere the children go and thus will always have a direct effect on them, whether they like it or not.

According to research done by the Kaiser family foundation, it was discovered that ‘’American children from six months to six years of age spend most of their time with screened media on a daily basis, just as they do playing(about two hours)’’.
It is highly believed that children and youth consume more television than the way they did in the past, this happens because most children/youth lack the freedom to play outside. This could be blamed on the availability of technology or sheer laziness on the side of parents to watch their children play.  It can also be that both parents work and scarcely spend time with their children in order to curtail their media consumption.

Therefore the children/youth tend to watch any program not minding if it is beneficial to them or not. Contrary to the olden days, children/youth were only exposed to media contents that only portrays ‘’a perfect life’’.  In recent times children are exposed to media contents like gay relationship and this affect them negatively.

Moreover, if parents can control the television at home what about the Internet cafĂ© outside? If the child is there, will he visit good or harmful sites?’  I think proper education and information on cultural and moral values is what the child needs, as this will help the child/youth to ascertain the type of media contents he wants to expose himself to.

TWO PEOPLE LEAVE A BUILDING AND WALK INTO A STORY

These two people in question never knew that, they will be recognized for writing a story.  A story that was actually about their real life experience, this story was later produced into a movie. It was a story about two childhood friends who did everything together, went to the same university, after their studies they were sent for service, it’s known as (NY SC) national youth service corps, it is a 1 year service that is recognized in Nigeria after graduation before going into the industry.  People were mostly sent to villages and the northern part of the country as teachers in secondary schools.  I saw the movie I think “obscure tradition” and it was based on a true life story.

These friends were sent to an uncivilized village in the eastern part of Nigeria. Then they decided to go for a walk and locate the supposed secondary school, although it was not impressing being that it was built with mud and bamboo just like the rest of the houses around the village, it was only a few houses were properly built with block and  aluminium.  On their way back they lost their direction and ran into the forest where they saw the village chief and the traditional chief priest killing twins saying it was a taboo to have twins.  They were arrested to be killed but somehow, they escaped and decided to fight that deadly tradition no matter what it would cost them.

It’s good to know that things like the killing of twins were abolished and so many things changed, as a result of civilization, education and Christianity, people now came to understand that twins are actually priceless gift from God and not a taboo.
We all run into one story or the other on a daily basis, ranging from our daily experiences of life, but it can only become a story if we choose to write about the significant part of it, which could be developed into something more realistic.

GIRLS ARE OFTEN THREATENED BY OTHER GIRLS BEAUTY

We girls are indeed full of surprises, how can some girls fill threatened by a fellow girl's beauty,i think is more of jealousy and not threatened. This may be as a result of the fact that girls love attention and often time want to be treated as princesses. And when they are not, they tend to be envious or jealous,i think girls are not really threatened by other girl's beauty per say, perhaps they are a bit intimidated if a beautiful girl is showing off her beauty over a man they are dating or interested in,and maybe because of her beauty gets more attention than you do.

I know of a fact that some girls think less of themselves simply because ,they think their friend is more beautiful than they are.Although beauty has become such a big thing in the society that we live in today,it has now advanced to the art of dressing well, making a beautiful hair, wearing the right make up and stuffs like that. This is because people get attention according to the way they are dressed, and even sometimes according to the kind of people they move with. They tend to get the best of everything, unlike girls who are average in this category or even below average.

This can cause most girls to develop inferiority complex with regards to their beauty and self image, this can lead to jealousy and being threatened by what the society see as beauty or by someone who is beautiful.

It is even possible that someone you seem threatened by her beauty is feeling the same way about you, girls must strive hard to believe in themselves because beauty comes from inside and not by what we see.Besides every girl is beautiful in her own way, just believe in yourself and get rid of that jealousy over a fellow girl's beauty, appreciate and admire her rather than envious because we are all beautiful creatures of God.

PEER PRESSURE

What is peer pressure? I understand this to be the urge to do something, not minding whether it is right or wrong because you see your friends doing them.  Pressure occurs when you don’t want to do something but you are pressurized into doing it by friends and you do it because you don’t want to stand out, you want to do as your friends are doing in order to be identified as friends.

E.g. When your friends always drink and smoke illegal drugs, you are forced to join them because you are always with them and they tell you do it it’s nothing and then you do it because you just want to fit into their clique.  When they also commit crimes, you will also join them for the same reason of fitting into the group, and then you always find yourself committing all sorts of illicit act and becoming a nuisance to the society at large.

Although peer pressure often times results to no good, but sometimes is not, this practically depends on the motive of your friends.  Now if your group of friends are the type that are always doing good stuff like; go to class, do their homework and read their books when you don’t, you will also be pressured into doing all this because you hang out with them always, you don’t want to stand out, and you want to be identified as their friend as well as fit into their group. This is peer pressure for good because it’s turning you into a better person than you used to be.

Peer pressure does not occur in teenagers alone but, it also happens to adults. As a teenager I assume you should know the difference between good and bad, you can equally decide for yourself to either allow pressure for a positive or negative effect or change.  Peer pressure can be prevented individually, with the help of parents and school’s guidance councilor etc. If a person decide within himself not to commit crime and is faced with pressure from their peer to bully others, smoke, drink and commit crime etc, they can deal with it individually by discarding such friends and associating themselves with a more responsible and focused group.  My father always say this: “Associate with people that will impact a positive change in your life and not irresponsible friends that will mislead you”.  If you are faced with pressure from your peer, don’t keep it inside speak to someone either your parents or somebody that can help you deal with.

HOW HARD IT IS TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS

Following instruction depends on the individual, the nature of the task, the sender and the receiver of the instruction. This means that if the instruction is not given in plain and clear language, it could be misunderstood and thus, it will not attain the purpose it was meant to attain. It is also the responsibility of the receiver to listen attentively to the instruction and ask questions.
 I guess following instruction is a two way procedure, because it involves the giver of the instruction who can be a teacher and the receiver of the instruction who is the student as the case may be.  Sometimes instructions are difficult to follow probably because the task is complicated or because the task will not serve a good purpose.  On the other hand some people just find it hard to follow instructions no matter how simple it may seem, and other people just listen and follow instructions given to them. With this I can say it’s an individual problem.  I think following instruction is easy when you observe the criteria’s below;
v    Listen attentively.  Ask questions where you don’t understand.  Write down for reference purposes while carrying out the instruction.

Moreover, if people can do this, I think understanding and executing instructions will be successful, timely and accurate. Timeliness is also part of understanding and taking instructions, this is because instruction tells you what to do and possibly how to do it, if an instructor says hand in tomorrow, it should be so, otherwise you are not following instructions.  It means you either have a problem following instructions or you don’t understand the instruction given.

Nevertheless, if after a good explanation of the instruction on the part of the instructor, the receiver still finds it hard to understand, then the problem lies with the receiver and not the instructor. It will mean that the receiver does not want to carry out the instruction.  So I guess following instruction is based on understanding and willingness to follow instructions.
