These two people in question never knew that, they will be recognized for writing a story. A story that was actually about their real life experience, this story was later produced into a movie. It was a story about two childhood friends who did everything together, went to the same university, after their studies they were sent for service, it’s known as (NY SC) national youth service corps, it is a 1 year service that is recognized in Nigeria after graduation before going into the industry. People were mostly sent to villages and the northern part of the country as teachers in secondary schools. I saw the movie I think “obscure tradition” and it was based on a true life story.
These friends were sent to an uncivilized village in the eastern part of Nigeria. Then they decided to go for a walk and locate the supposed secondary school, although it was not impressing being that it was built with mud and bamboo just like the rest of the houses around the village, it was only a few houses were properly built with block and aluminium. On their way back they lost their direction and ran into the forest where they saw the village chief and the traditional chief priest killing twins saying it was a taboo to have twins. They were arrested to be killed but somehow, they escaped and decided to fight that deadly tradition no matter what it would cost them.
It’s good to know that things like the killing of twins were abolished and so many things changed, as a result of civilization, education and Christianity, people now came to understand that twins are actually priceless gift from God and not a taboo.
We all run into one story or the other on a daily basis, ranging from our daily experiences of life, but it can only become a story if we choose to write about the significant part of it, which could be developed into something more realistic.
