HANGING OUT WITH FRIENDS

Unathi, me and Gloria hanging out after desert.

It is necessary to hang out with your friends once in a while, if you have good friends or peers, i recently had one for the first time in my life, surprising I guess, but it was really nice to be out with two of my friends on a weekend and mind relaxing as well.
If you have an understanding and respective friends, who does not take each other’s friendship for granted,  then you will  be happy to spend time with them, because, no one is trying to pressurize each into anything of some sort and you learn from each other, which makes it fun.
Moreover, I learnt something though, that no matter the nature of what somebody is saying, even if you consider it absolutely unnecessary or as junk, it is still better that you do more of listening than talking because, surprisingly you will learn a thing or two from that unnecessary discussion or contribution.

IT IS A POOR IDEA TO LIE TO YOURSELF

This title reminds me of how many times, I have tried to lie to myself on trivial matters but could not, you might be wondering how possible it is to lie to yourself, but believe me, a lot of people try, but the truth remains that no one can.  There are so many things you can do as an individual, including lying to your parents and loved ones.
Nevertheless the facts remains that you can lie to people, but deep in your heart, you know the truth.  That is one thing I believe no one can beat, that moment when your heart begins to prick you, telling you that you know you were lying to someone.
Besides lying to yourself will make you feel good at that moment  and the implication could be hilarious.   It is apparent then to stand up for the truth, because that will make you a more confident and strong person, which means that you are not scared of the truth as often times that is usually the reason behind lies.  Note:  One lie leads to a million more lies, Stand up for the truth.

FRIENDS SET UP

Winston forcing himself on Amber after her friend who brought her left, to go get something, it was all a set up.

This is usually common in young girls, where a friend  and sometimes best friend virtually plead with you to accompany her to see a friend, who in most cases is a guy, and when you get there, few minutes later, she asks you to wait there for her while, she go get something as the case may be.
It is very dangerous, it could even be a plan, and you could be raped in the  process of sitting there waiting for your friend, who seem to be taking ages to get back.  I saw a movie a long time ago, can’t remember the title though, where  a similar  thing happened, a girl was waiting for her friend who brought her to a guy’s house, not knowing, she went home, because that was the plan, she even took money from the guy to bring her friend who was completely ignorant of the whole situation.
If you ever find yourself in such situation because, you couldn’t help going with your friend in the first place, take the advice my auntie once gave me, go with your friend if she has to go get something after all you came with her, do not sit in a strangers house and say to yourself  “had I known”  when something unpleasant happens, you could have prevented it, by just going with your friend.  Be wise, don’t be deceived.

THE SOUND OF ONE HAND CLAPPING

The sound of one hand clapping!  I will attribute this to, friendship, because I want to talk about, friendship, real friends, and foes, like we all know, friendship is said to exist when, two or more people of about the same age range, care, support and have each other’s back at times and in all situations.
Linking it to the sound of one hand clapping, ordinarily, you think that you have got such great friends, unknowingly to you, they are against you, they pretend to support you but, behind you, they despise you.  Is even worse when you are standing alone, without even knowing it.
When you actually hear the sound of one hand clapping is when you get to really know who your real friends are and then, you realise that, the one hand clapping has been you standing alone all along with foes who pretend to be friends.  Because your real friends clap with you and when you only hear yourself clapping, it means you never really had any friends.

COPING WITH PEER PRESSURE

Peer pressure does not only happen to teenagers, in some cases, it happens to adults as well.  It has no respect for age, gender or race, it can happen to anyone.  We all know that all peer pressures are not bad, as some yield good results.
When I was growing up I developed about three personal principles to overcome peer pressure, and it has been working for me up till now.  I would share them with you, try it, you never can tell it will work for you, besides, there is no harm in trying.
If you want to easily cope with peer pressure, you can try my personal principles which are; making friends with people who respect each other’s, feelings, opinions and decisions.  Be determined, focused and positive in all you do, with the ability to say no, that way it will be very difficult for someone to easily influence you and finally, listen to your heart when making critical decisions.  Good luck, hope it works for you.

TEENAGE PREGNANCY

Teenage pregnancy is when; a young girl of less than eighteen years old is put with child (Pregnant).  Some people regard the situation, as “Children having children”, which is true because, a young girl of less than eighteen years is still a child herself.
This is becoming the order of the day, as the number of teenage pregnancies is on the increase around the world, this calls for urgent concern and intervention because, the teenagers are the future of the world.  And teenage pregnancy threatens the future of the young as well as that of the nation, when some are seen dropping out of school, thereby increasing the number of illiterate people in the country.
The causes of teenage pregnancy ranges, from, peer pressure, ignorance etc.  Whichever the case, parents and the government should intervene in this matter and bring it to a possible end, especially as it concerns, teenagers, the future of our great nation.

AM ALMOST EIGHTEEN MOM!

                                                         After all,''Am almost eighteen''.

Am almost eighteen mom!  That is the usual phrase used by teenagers. Teenagers are in such a hurry to go into the world, see the world, sow their wide oats, but they basically forget that almost eighteen is not the same thing as eighteen. Is either you are eighteen or you are not, I do not believe such a thing as almost.

The mere thought of being eighteen is overwhelming to most teenagers, while it is scary for some. I was in a taxi the other day, when I overheard two teenagers talking about what they are going to do on reaching eighteen couldn't help but listen to them.  One of them said that, she cannot wait to be eighteen as she was not going to listen to her mom or anybody anymore, that she will get a boyfriend and do anything that pleases her. While the other told her that being eighteen is not a guarantee for them to do anything they like as it will not do them any good.

Believe it or not it's indeed over whelming, such a teenager that is planning on all the wrong things to do when she is eighteen, shows that the mere thought of having that freedom and independence is already intoxicating her, and if nothing is done about it she might end up on the wrong road.

Most teenagers tend to become either responsible or irresponsible while approaching that age. They are responsible depending on their upbringing and belief, these type of teenagers sees the age as a time to be responsible and plan their life as they will now be held responsible for their actions.  The other irresponsible ones sees the age, as a time for them to do whatever pleases them and scream at their parents using the normal phrase, after all am almost eighteen so, I can do whatever I want.

Shocking news for you, you are almost eighteen, but not eighteen and so, you should listen to your parents and hid to their words, because parents always know and want the best for their children, besides, the bible says:"Obey your father and mother, so that your days on earth will be long”.  Here is a word of advice for teenagers, if you want to live a long and prosperous life, obey and listen to the words of your parents, because those words are words of wisdom.  And the bible did not say stop listening to your parents once you are eighteen.

NOT ALL WHO WANDER ARE LOST

Come to think of it, are all who wander lost? This is a critical question that needs critical thinking to be able to answer it. People wander for their own individual reasons and interest, but that does not necessarily mean that they are lost.

Some people wander to get away from certain things; they can wander because they need answers to some of life's challenges that come their way. To take a break from stress, to find themselves, to sow their wild oats, to find directions, to clear their head.

Moreover people can wander to find a wife remember a movie I saw a long time ago, titled "Coming to America" starring Eddie Murphy, most of you will know the movie am referring to right now, where Eddie a prince left Africa all the way to America in disguise, to search for a wife that will love him for him and not because of his wealth.

You can say he went wandering, but not at all lost, because he was wandering for a reason, this means that people may wander because they are looking for something and not because they are lost. That notwithstanding, I still do believe that, some people who wander are really lost.
